Let’s break it down. The gel polish industry is going through a wake-up call.
HEMA (Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate) — a common ingredient in many gel nail products — has officially been banned for consumer use in the UK and EU unless labelled "for professional use only."
Why?
Because HEMA can cause serious allergic reactions, especially when it comes in contact with skin or is not cured properly. Think: redness, itching, peeling, and even long-term contact dermatitis.
At Haute Mes, we made a conscious choice never to use HEMA or similar aggressive monomers. Our semi-cured gel nail stickers are pre-formulated using safe, non-toxic polymers that meet global safety standards.
